1. What is SAMILIN used for?Samilin is used to treat a wet cough (a cough that produces phlegm or mucus), often associated with the common cold, bronchitis, or respiratory allergies. It works in two ways:Thins and Loosens Phlegm: It helps break up thick mucus in the airways, making it much easier to cough up and clear out.Relieves Cold & Allergy Symptoms: It helps soothe throat irritation, and reduces sneezing, a runny nose, or watery eyes.2. Dosage Guide (Adults & Children)⚠️ Critical Warning: This medication must not be given to children under 2 years old. For children under 6 years old, it should only be used under direct medical supervision.The standard recommended dosages are as follows:For Adults and Adolescents (12 years and older):Dose: $5\text{ mL}$ to $10\text{ mL}$ (1 to 2 teaspoons).Frequency: Every 4 to 6 hours as needed.Maximum Daily Limit: Do not exceed $40\text{ mL}$ within a 24-hour period.For Children aged 6 to 12 years old:Dose: $2.5\text{ mL}$ to $5\text{ mL}$ (half to 1 teaspoon).Frequency: Every 4 to 6 hours as needed.Maximum Daily Limit: Do not exceed $20\text{ mL}$ within a 24-hour period.For Children aged 2 to 5 years old:Dose: $1.25\text{ mL}$ to $2.5\text{ mL}$ (a quarter to half a teaspoon), taken every 4 to 6 hours only if specifically directed by a pediatrician.⚠️ Side Effects & Important PrecautionsSignificant Drowsiness: Because it contains Diphenhydramine (a first-generation antihistamine), this syrup will cause drowsiness and sedation. Do not drive, operate machinery, or perform tasks requiring sharp alertness after taking it.Dry Mouth: It commonly causes a dry mouth, throat, or nose.Hydration Tip: Since this is an expectorant, drinking plenty of water and warm fluids while taking this medication will greatly help loosen and flush out the phlegm faster.Measurement: Always use a proper measuring syringe or medication cup rather than a random kitchen spoon to ensure you are taking the correct amount.
