A powerful formula to support bone health Vitamin K has been known for over 80 years for its role in blood clotting. This general term encompasses several forms of vitamin K derived from different food sources: Vitamin K1, also known as phylloquinone, is found primarily in green vegetables such as spinach, broccoli, and kale. Vitamin K2 is found in a group of molecules called menoquinones, which are primarily of microbial origin. This is why fermented foods, such as cheese and natto (a Japanese dish made with fermented soybeans), contain higher levels of vitamin K2 . In recent years, it has become clear that the different forms of vitamin K also have different effects on health: while both vitamin K1 and vitamin K2 have a role in proper blood clotting, additional functions have been assigned to vitamin K2 to maintain the health of bones and the heart and blood vessels, particularly by stimulating calcium deposition in bone tissues and preventing calcification of blood vessels. Vitamin K is involved in multiple other functions, and its intake is currently being discussed as a preventative measure to maintain health during aging. To support bone health, calcium supplementation is generally recommended after a certain age. This intervention becomes more effective if vitamin K2 and vitamin D3 are taken together. Doppelherz® Vitamin D3+K2 provides the body with 100 micrograms of vitamin K2 plus 35 micrograms of vitamin D3 (1400 IU). This combination is beneficial for stimulating increased bone mineralization while maintaining normal circulating calcium levels, thus reducing the risk of vascular calcification.
